Not Amish
Never assume someone is Amish just because they’re wearing a bonnet; it’s possible they’re just dressed that way. Mennonites are one of these groups. Despite their superficial resemblance, the Amish and Mennonites are not one and the same people. In reality, combining the two is a recipe for disaster. The Amish and Mennonites are both non-Orthodox Christian sects. Rather than living in isolation, they’ve assimilated into more developed societies. Many of them have a working knowledge of computers and are able to operate a vehicle. There are some instances where a Mennonite’s clothing can be mistaken for that of a non-Mennonite.

It’s surprising to see how tolerant and accepting the Amish are despite their many restrictions on their activities and lifestyles. It’s not impossible to get caught when you break the rules, though. If anyone is found to be breaking their ethics code, there are certain consequences. To be labeled as meidung, a person is considered to be an outcast by their peers.
