Growing Population
Around 5,000 Amish lived in the United States in 1920. This is equivalent to $300,000 in today’s money. As a result, the Amish population grew from 84,000 in 1984 to more than a million in the last three decades. In addition to their religious belief that larger families are required by God, and the more practical necessity of increasing their farm crew, the increase is attributed to both of these factors.

Strict Guidelines For Clothes
Amish clothing, by definition, is simple. Some sects dress in muted colors, but the majority of sects wear black and white clothing. Color, buttons, zippers, and velcro, as well as the potential for ostentation and adornment, are often discouraged and avoided. In place of pins or hook-and-eye closures, they’re more common.
