Pacifism and conflict avoidance are emphasized in the Amish religion. For religious reasons, the Amish do not support military service or the death penalty. Pacifists, the Amish believe in Jesus’ command to love those who hate them and reject violence. The Amish abhor all forms of violence.

Toys with no faces are given to young Amish children on a regular basis. Pride and vanity are discouraged by the expressionless, emotionless faces. According to a 2007 sociological report, “all are alike in God’s view” and the lack of facial characteristics fits with the Bible’s prohibition against graven images, the dolls have no faces.. There are a large number of Amish doll makers who prefer to remain anonymous.
