Can You Believe These Iconic Movie Lines Were Actually Improvised
Movies are made to entertain, though there is no denying the fact that screenplays can be masterpieces in own right. However, it’s even more fascinating to learn that sometimes the best part of films are the scenes that were not originally included in the script! Some actors came up with golden one-liners and monologues all by themselves. The most iconic scenes are sometimes the product of pure improvisation! So, let us take a look at some of these epic moments from movie history. We all have a favorite childhood movie or a cult classic that we’ve watched over and over and could recite every line to. Sometimes it’s mesmerizing to actually read the original screenplay. What was even more fascinating is to discover that some of our beloved movie moments were actually off the cuff. Some of these really did surprise us, and often these genius moments are the first thing we remember about the movie! And we promise that you can comb the script thoroughly and these scenes will be no where to be found!

Collage
Most movie buffs out there will be familiar with the iconic films on the list. The ones that made the cut range from Goodfellas and Forest Gump to Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean and Pulp Fiction. It’s fairly safe to say that these iconic classics featured some of the most talented Hollywood actors and actresses in showbiz. From Tom Hanks or Johnny Depp to Harrison Ford, some of these stars got so immersed in their characters on an emotional level, that they fine-tuned their improv skills and ended up delivering some of the most iconic lines ever to grace the big screen. A great deal of these ad-lib scenes happened on the spot, and some of these stars surprised their co-stars by going off the script. In these instances the reactions of their co-stars made the scene even more authentic and legendary. We promise you, most of these films wouldn’t have been the same without these spontaneous moments. We couldn’t imagine what the movies would have been like now without them, so we give kudos to these talented stars. A few of these unscripted moments happened unexpectedly, as a result of the actor fluffing their lines or an unplanned incident on the set. In these cases the directors and the crew were so impressed or astonished, that they decided these authentic moments were even more entertaining than the original. So let’s take a trip through the Hollywood hall of fame, and find out which unscripted moments ended up going down in cinematic history.
The Fugitive
First on the list is none other than the crime flick The Fugitive with Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones. The scene that makes it eligible for the cut is none other than the final showdown.

The Fugitive
After Ford’s character was finally caught, he holds up his hands and yells that he is not responsible for the murder of his wife. Jones’s character, meanwhile, tells him, “I don’t care.” In the script, it should be, “That isn’t my problem.” We daresay the new version was a lot better!
Midnight Cowboy
We’re sure you didn’t notice this improvised scene during your first viewing of Midnight Cowboy. Regardless, it was performed completely off the cuff.

Midnight Cowboy
The crew closed off the area for filming, though one confused taxi driver did not notice the sign. He almost ran over Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight! Yes, it seems like Hoffman was genuinely aggrieved when he yelled, “I’m walking here!”
Ghost
Now, we are sure that we don’t need to remind you about the fact that Whoopi Goldberg appeared in Ghost.

Ghost
After all, she won an Oscar for her excellent portrayal of the psychic Demi Moore employs for help. The scene where she tells the main character, “Molly, you in danger, girl!” was actually unscripted.
A Few Good Men
A Few Good Men has made a name for itself as an iconic classic. Part of its fame is thanks to this epic line: “You can’t handle the truth!” It has resulted in a meme of its and you will find all sorts of references in TV shows, movies, and even video games.

A Few Good Men
It is thus completely surprising to learn that Jack Nicholson came up with the one-liner there and then.
When Harry Met Sally
When it comes to romantic comedy, it is difficult to find one more memorable than the 1989 film When Harry Met Sally.

When Harry Met Sally
In one scene, you will see Harry telling Sally, “I would be proud to partake of your pecan pie.” The reason Julia Roberts laughs so hard is that she did not expect to hear that. After all, it wasn’t in the script Nora Ephron penned!
The Dark Knight
Comic book movies have become all the rage these days. We daresay that Heath Ledger delivered one of the best portrayals of any villain when he appeared in The Dark Knight as the Joker.

The Dark Knight
It’s on the list for the scene when Gordon’s promotion is made known to the officers in the precinct. As everyone applauds, the Joker sarcastically joins in as he begins clapping. Yup, you would not find this in the original screenplay but that does not make it any less chilling.
Deliverance
When it comes to horror movies, the scariest ones are usually the ones more grounded in reality. That’s why the tale of a vacation-turned-nightmare in Deliverance was so terrifying! This one is a bit graphic, we’re warning you.

Deliverance
In the scene when the redneck asks one of the main characters to “Squeal like a pig!” as he is being sodomized was nothing sort of shocking. However, it was actually delivered off the cuff, though different cast members claim credit for it.
Good Will Hunting
The 1997 drama film Good Will Hunting tells the heartwarming story of a janitor who possesses a genius IQ level. Matt Damon was fantastic in the titular role as was Robin Williams who acted as his mentor. In the last scene of the movie, Robin Williams receives a letter from the main character.

Good Will Hunting
As he reads it, the film ends with him laughing it off with this memorable line: “Son of a bitch! He stole my line!” We sure miss Robin Williams and his antics.
Being John Malkovich
Being John Malkovich earned its status as a cult classic thanks to its originality and surreal atmosphere. It is almost unsurprising to hear that the director decided to include a random moment in the final cut of the movie.

Being John Malkovich
Specifically, we are talking about the part where someone chucks a can at Malkovich right after yelling, “Hey, Malkovich! Think fast!” That was actually the brilliance of a drunk extra who did it just because he could.
The Usual Suspects
While there are directors who don’t mind ad-libbed lines, others completely prefer to stick to the screenplay. Brian Singer generally belonged to the latter category, though he did relent in one scene in The Usual Suspects. In particular, we are talking about the lineup scene in the heist movie.

The Usual Suspects
Apparently, it was meant to be played straight but the others couldn’t help laughing since Benicio Del Toro had some gas problems. The scene was eventually played for jokes since everyone had a hard time keeping a straight face with all the farts!
Goodfellas
When we talk about gangster films, it is pretty impossible not to mention the fan favorite Goodfellas. It is right up there with The Godfather trilogy, after all. None of this would be possible without the great cast composed of Robert De Niro, Jose Pesci, Lorraine Bracco, and Ray Liotta.

Goodfellas
However, Pesci deserves the award for the best improvised line. As Tommy, he came up with the “Do I amuse you?” line all by himself! Major kudos to him for his brilliance.
The Silence of the Lambs
Anthony Hopkins is undeniably a fantastic performer. He has delivered time and again.

The Silence Of The Lambs
However, he will likely be forever known as Dr. Hannibal Lecter from The Silence of the Lambs. Interestingly, he came up with some of the mannerisms of the cannibal. A great example would be the frightening hissing sound the character makes.
Taxi Driver
Taxi Driver earned its reputation as a great film for many reasons. One of these would undoubtedly be Robert De Niro and the famous “You talkin’ to me?” scene. It was not in the screenplay!

Taxi Driver
The original version only mentioned the character looking at the mirror. Luckily, Scorsese gave De Niro free reign and that was how the iconic monologue came about.
The Warriors
There are many good things to say about The Warriors and David Patrick Kelly’s portrayal of Luther tops the list.

The Warriors
Did you know that the line “Warriors come out to play!” was performed off the cuff? Yes, the actor deserves props for the line. It certainly seems like the director enjoyed this addition as it was even repeated several times.
Apocalypse Now
Marlon Brando is undoubtedly one of the biggest actors in the industry, though he has a reputation for being hard to work with.

Apocalypse Now
The actor is well-known for preferring method acting and it sometimes came to a point where he used the character’s mannerisms off-screen. Apparently, he completely refused to learn many of his lines in Apocalypse Now and this is why he improvised about 18 minutes of dialogue as Colonel Kurtz.
Blade Runner
Harrison Ford might have starred in the movie, but let us focus on his coworker Rutger Hauer this time. We need you to remember the closing scene in Blade Runner this time.

Blade Runner
Initially, Hauer kept true to the script, though he eventually began improvising the speech. That was how the memorable ‘tears in rain’ monologue came into existence.
Jaws
The horror film Jaws holds a special place in movie history and in our hearts.

Jaws
We could go on and on about how great the Scorsese masterpiece is, though let us first focus on this particular line: “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.” Apart from delivering it, Roy Scheider also improvised the line.
Raiders Of The Lost Ark
Up next, we have another movie starring Harrison Ford: Raiders of the Lost Ark. If you have no idea which part was off the cuff, we recommend looking back to the entertaining fight scene from the film. Yes, you know what we’re talking about. If things went according to plan, Ford would have performed the fight choreography.

Raiders Of The Lost Ark
However, he got sick just before the filming was supposed to happen. He had to ask them to tone it down and this was how the epic battle came to be.
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
It seems like the director knew Gene Wilder was the only person who could have played the part of Willy Wonka. Yes, this was even before he tried out for the part!

Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory
Likewise, the actor got away with a lot of things in the role of the character. Apparently, he even got to change the entrance of his character. We are talking about none other than the way Willy Wonka limps before surprising everyone with a somersault.
RoboCop
Occasionally, the actors let the directors in on their improvised lines ahead of time. This was what occurred in the film. Kurtwood Smith informed the director about a line he wanted to say and the director agreed. However, they decided it would be best to leave the others unaware.

RoboCop
This is how they got such genuine reactions when Smith yells “Give me my fuckin’ phone call!”
A Clockwork Orange
Even geniuses have bad days. Stanley Kubrick had a hard time with one particular scene in A Clockwork Orange.

A Clockwork Orange
When he hit an artistic brick wall while filming the hostage scene, he gave up and told the cast, “Just do whatever you want.” This is how Malcolm McDowell ended up breaking into a song, ultimately creating an unforgettable scene in movie history.
Full Metal Jacket
Next, we have yet another Kubrick film in the list. He might have written the original screenplay of Full Metal Jacket, though things did not go the exact same way during shooting. Things changed with the casting of R. Lee Ermey.

Full Metal Jacket
Apparently, the actor served in the Marine Corps for some time so he had expert knowledge on the matter. After Full Metal Jacket was released, Kubrick explained that about half of the character’s lines had been improvised!
Saving Private Ryan
Now that we started talking about great war films, we definitely have to discuss Saving Private Ryan as well.

Saving Private Ryan
It got a spot on the list thanks to the discussion between Tom Hanks and Damon about the things they had to leave behind. When Damon starts talking about how he caught his brother with a girl, it wasn’t in the script at all!
This is Spinal Tap
How can we ever forget about the iconic comedy flick This is Spinal Tap? It is fascinating to learn that a huge portion of the movie had been made up there and then. The cast made a lot of stuff up that they were later included in the writers’ section of the film!

This Is Spinal Tap
If you need an example, we will let you know that this great line was not in the script: “It’s such a fine line between stupid and clever.”
Dr. Strangelove
Dr. Strangelove is a pretty unusual movie, that much is certain. Its alternate title is actually “How I Learned to Stop Worrying About the Bomb”! This cold war film has truly earned its status as a masterpiece fair and square.

Dr. Strangelove
Perhaps this has something to do with the fact that they decided to ditch the regular script in order to encourage creativity. Sellers came up with the Nazi salute all by himself, apparently!
Zoolander
It is hard to think of anyone who could have done justice to the main character from Zoolander. The 2001 comedy flick is on the list for the graveyard scene.

Zoolander
Right after David Duchovny delivers a monologue about male models as assassins, Stiller forgets his script and asks him why again. Duchovny played along and we have to say the scene fit the movie perfectly!
The Shining
Let us now talk about yet another Kubrick film: The Shining. There was something both mesmerizing and terrifying about seeing Jack Nicholson playing a character falling into insanity. Of course, the perfect example would be the line “Here’s Johnny!”

The Shining
We all had to stifle screams when he delivered it right after he peered into the bathroom door crack, right? Fascinatingly, it was an off-the-cuff one-liner he came up with as an homage to The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
You guessed it: here’s some more Harrison Ford on the list! In Star Wars:

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back
The Empire Strikes Back, our favorite intergalactic smuggler shares a tender scene with Princess Leia. When Leia blurts out, “I love you”, Solo only cooly replies, “I know”. Apparently, Harrison Ford deserves the credit for the great scene.
Young Frankenstein
Up next, we have Young Frankenstein. Let’s put Gene Wilder aside and take a look at Marty Feldman this time.

Young Frankenstein
He portrayed the character Igor in the film. Director Mel Brooks allegedly encouraged creativity among the cast by telling them to improvise. This was how the great “What hump?” line entered the movie!
Animal House
Animal House had a lot of great talents in the cast and many of them managed to improve the film and make it the masterpiece it is.

Animal House
John Belushi actually improvised his lines during the entire cafeteria scene in the movie.
Dumb and Dumber
We all laughed numerous times while watching Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels goof off in Dumb and Dumber. We want you to think back to when they were on the way to Aspen.

Dumb And Dumber
While in the truck, the two begin playing tag and Carrey makes ‘the most annoying sound in the world’. You can comb the script for it, though we’re certain you won’t find it there.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Not a lot of people will contend the idea that The Lord of the Rings ended up being the best fantasy franchise the world has ever seen. During the first movie, The Fellowship of the Ring, Aragorn thought the cousins died.

The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Ring
Viggo Mortenson is a talented man, though the scream he lets out after kicking the helmet away can’t entirely be attributed to his acting chops. The actor actually broke his toe in the process and he was only expressing his pain!
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
While We’re on the subject of fantasy, we simply have to talk about another great franchise in the genre. Sorry, we don’t make the rules. In the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Molly and Arthur Weasley were arguing about the best way to discipline Ron and Harry.

Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets
Apparently, it was a hard scene to get right and they took over a dozen takes! They eventually went with the take that had the Weasley patriarch ask the main character, “What exactly is the function of a rubber duck?”
Ghostbusters
Rick Moranis was actually an improv performer in Chicago for quite some time. That’s why it is not all that surprising to hear that he improvised many of his lines in Ghostbusters. That doesn’t make it any less impressive though! In fact, Ivan Reitman had great things to say about the actor’s penchant for improvisation.

Ghostbusters
According to him, “Rick just made all of it up as he was doing it.”
Caddyshack
Fans were disappointed to hear about Bill Murray’s decision to quit SNL. Luckily, he continues to act in movies such as Caddyshack. Did you know that he improvised the Dalai Lama monologue? The same goes for the Cinderella bit as well.

Caddyshack
If you go through the script, you will only find this: “Carl cuts off the tops of the flowers with a grass whip.”
Knocked Up
Seth Rogen first emerged from the under the radar when he portrayed Ken in the cult favorite show Freaks and Geeks. However, Knocked Up was the project that made him the star he is now. Judd Apatow is known for his openness with the actors and we bet this helped make the film the classic it is.

Knocked Up
Apparently, Rogen came up with certain parts like the way his character made a reference to Munich.
Aliens
It’s no secret that most sequels fail to live up to the potential of its predecessor. That rule did not apply to the Aliens franchise, however.

Aliens
We adored watching Sigourney Weaver for the second time, this time accompanied by Bill Paxton. While the “Game over, man” line was one of the greatest moments in Aliens, it was not actually part of the script.
Tootsie
When you have Bill Murray and Dustin in a film together, it was pretty much guaranteed to be successful. In the movie, Murray portrayed Jeff the roommate.

Tootsie
The director was aware of Murray’s knack for improvisation and that was how they came up with the party monologue. It was amazing but hey, this is Bill Murray we are talking about.
The Third Man
We all know that Orson Welles is a cinematic genius. However, you would be surprised to hear that he has turned to improvisation several times in the past. The fact that he actually came up with this great line there and then is nothing short of amazing: “In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder, bloodshed.

The Third Man
They produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, five hundred years of democracy and peace. And what did they produce? The cuckoo clock.”
The Devil Wears Prada
Meryl Streep is an actress whose names everyone is familiar with.

The Devil Wears Prada
The spectacular actress apparently became so invested in the antagonistic character that she ended up inventing some original lines. One such line was, “Everybody wants to be us.”
The Godfather
We mentioned The Godfather in passing earlier in this article but it deserves a spot of its own as well.

The Godfather
Try to remember the part with Paulie Gatto and his assassination attempt. While he failed to accomplish his objective, Richard Castellano delivered a winning line. Yes, we are talking about the bit where he adds “Take the cannoli”.
Casablanca
Up next, we have the classic film Casablanca. It is perhaps most famous for the iconic quote, “Here’s looking at you, kid.”

Casablanca
While it is a very famous line, it was not actually supposed to be in the movie! It was reportedly an inside joke shared by Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart. We are glad that the writers knew a great one-liner when they heard one and that was how it became a part of the film.
Titanic
Titanic is just as well-loved as the classic romance film. We bet you have seen the James Cameron masterpiece as well. Rumor has it that the first scene they took was the drawing scene.

Titanic
Apparently, Leo DiCaprio flubbed his line when he was instructing Kate Winslet to rest on the couch. He ended up saying, “Go lie on the bed… I mean the couch.” It seems like Cameron liked this deviation and kept it in the final cut!
Lost In Translation
We all enjoyed watching Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray spend time together in the fascinating city of Tokyo. Did you know that the script called for a hug between the two for the final scene? However, the pair decided it would be more appropriate to end Lost in Translation with a kiss instead.

Lost In Translation
Interestingly, whatever it is Murray whispers was not in the script either!
40 Year Old Virgin
When asked to pick a favorite scene from 40 Year Old Virgin, we will have a tough time giving you an answer. Many comedians are excellent at improvisation and the same goes for the actors in the film. Luckily for us, they used it to make the movie even better.

40 Year Old Virgin
Apparently, the wax treatment scene did not make use of props at all! Yes, Carrell actually had his chest hair ripped off in real time.
Clueless
Up next, we have one of the best teen movies from the 90’s. We would like to direct your attention to the actor Donald Faison. The movie is on the list for the head shaving scene during the party.

Clueless
When asked about it, he replies, “I’m just keepin’ it real.” The actor confessed that he first heard the line from a neighbor and decided to try it out for himself.
Bridesmaids
There were a lot of talented actresses in the Bridesmaids cast and we were glad they came together for this comedic masterpiece.

Bridesmaids
There are many great moments in the film, though the most iconic scene award goes to the dress shopping adventure. Apparently, you won’t find the part where Maya Rudolph drops down to relieve herself in the screenplay.
Pretty Woman
Now, how can we forget the romantic comedy Pretty Woman? The scene that made it eligible for the list is a fairly small one, though it is nonetheless charming.

Pretty Woman
When Richard Gere presents his gift to Julia Roberts, he pranks her by shutting the box when she reaches to touch the necklace.
Forrest Gump
We all know how quotable this movie is. However, you might be surprised to learn that this line was the result of Tom Hanks’ quick wit: “My name is Forrest Gump. People call me Forrest Gump.”

Forrest Gump
Clearly, Director Robert Zemeckis liked it and included it in the final cut of the movie.
American Beauty
When Sam Mendes was working on his project American Beauty, he allowed the actors a great degree of freedom.

American Beauty
Impressively, the dinner scene was not scripted. While the actors received some general instructions, their improvisation brought the moment to life.
Reservoir Dogs
It might be an earlier work, though we daresay that Reservoir Dogs is one of Tarantino’s best movies.

Reservoir Dogs
However, he doesn’t deserve all the credit for making it so good. When Mr. Blonde snips off Nash’s ear, actor Michael Madsen cooked up the one-liner, “Can you hear that?” The same applies to the weird dancing and witty replies!
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Can you believe that the actors for the main characters in the Harry Potter films portrayed the roles for more than a decade?

Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows
We’re sure this meant they were very familiar with their parts by the time the wrapped up Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Maybe this is how Ralph Fiennes AKA Lord Voldemort was able to keep mixing up the last speech. He reportedly kept doing it to elicit more genuine reactions from the other actors.
The Terminator
Yes, we have yet another James Cameron flick on the list. Let us now look at the sci-fi film The Terminator.

The Terminator
It’s yet another subtle addition, yet we cannot imagine the film without it! We are talking about the iconic “I’ll be back” line. Apparently, Arnold Schwarzenegger came up with it as he was only supposed to walk away disappointedly.
Citizen Kane
Citizen Kane continues to top lists about the best movies ever made, decades after its release in 1941. Orson Welles is a truly talented man – he directed, starred, and wrote in the film, after all. He must have been experiencing plenty of pressure back then. Perhaps this is why he said “Rosebud” instead of “No, my sled…” for the opening line.

Citizen Kane
It’s a great thing he was able to use the mistake and turn it into something great!
The Wizard Of Oz
We bet you would not be able to believe just how important the improvised line in The Wizard of Oz. Yes, it was for the legendary line, “I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore”. If Judy Garland didn’t say it, the movie would have been totally different and Wicked would not have been created!

The Wizard Of Oz
It was, to say the least, a turning point for the film since it set the movie in the fantasy-land Oz. The movie was supposed to be called After The Tornado but, fortunately, it was changed to The Wizard of Oz.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
We all know that Captain Jack Sparrow is an oddball and we bet Johnny Depp went through quite a lot to get the character right. Apparently, he got to know the character so well he delivered a lot of lines off the cuff in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
Case in point: “I got a jar of dirt!” It wasn’t in the script but it has, nonetheless, made for a great scene in the movie.
A Series of Unfortunate Events
Netflix might have released their own adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events, though we have to admit the movie has a special place in our heart. Jim Carrey was nothing short of amazing as Count Olaf. The actor showed off his improv skills in the movie and even made a curious request.

A Series Of Unfortunate Events
Yes, we’re talking about the part where he referred to the film crew and said, “Wait! Let me do that one more time! Give me the light again. Quickly, while it’s fresh in my mind!”
Inglorious Basterds
Up next, we have another Tarantino movie: Inglourious Basterds. The Second World War film was full of iconic lines. Come on, you can’t have possibly forgotten Brad Pitt’s attempt to speak Italian. However, we want to redirect your attention to the character Hans Landa.

Inglourious Basterds
Interestingly, Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz did not portray him in one role. When the Nazi was squeezing the life out of the actress’s neck, it was actually the director’s hands we are seeing.
Foxcatcher
Channing Tatum is a fantastic actor, no doubt about that. Just look at Foxcatcher if you need any proof. It must have been stressful to act in several scenes in the movie. In particular, we can’t imagine what it must have been like to shoot the mental breakdown scene.

Foxcatcher
Apparently, he wasn’t supposed to hurt himself by banging his head on the mirror! Nonetheless, it made for an intense scene and that was why it was used in the final cut.
The Wolf of Wall Street
The Wolf of Wall Street has a lot of improvisation, though let us take a look at the intimate moment between Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie.

The Wolf Of Wall Street
The actress was given the option to put on a robe, though she chose not to. She knew the character was all about her physicality, after all.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2
For this item, we are talking about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with Andrew Garfield.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2
When Emma Stone yelled out “Peter!” and clasped a hand to cover her mouth? Yes, that was completely off the cut. It made plenty of sense and so it stayed in the final version.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Indy had a difficult time seeing through the lovely Nazi spy in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Henry Jones, played by Sean Connery, had been trying to convince his son of the truth the whole time.

Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade
When Indy finally realizes it, he asks how his father could tell. Off the cuff, Sean Connery told the titular character, “She talks in her sleep.”
Thor: The Dark World
Let’s just say the title character made a great entrance in Thor: The Dark World.

Thor: The Dark World
Apparently, the script did not have him hanging the Warhammer on a coat hook. He simply came up with it and everyone loved it! They didn’t use the first take, however, as they chose to redo the scene.
Inception
Christopher Nolan’s Inception was a great film for many reasons. The relationship between the characters played by Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt definitely made it better.

Inception
Impressively, Hardy tacked on the term of endearment to “You mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.”
The Incredible Hulk
You must remember the bar scene with Robert Downey Jr. and William Hurt in The Incredible Hulk. Apparently, it was not in the script and the cast members only improvised it.

The Incredible Hulk
The scene was meant to be a silent one, though Iron Man actor cooked up the line, “I hear you have an unusual problem. What if I told you we were putting a team together…”
The Hangover
The Hangover was a great comedy film and the cast helped cement this status. Zach Galifianakis, in particular, delivered some of the best parts off the cuff.

The Hangover
This includes the moment he did something scandalous to the infant. The actor talked about it with regret, however: “The one improv that will haunt me for the rest of my life, is the [scene where I] make the baby [unknowingly mimic a sexual act].” It’s a good thing it was only actually a doll!
Shaun of the Dead
Shaun of the Dead is definitely a great comedy film. However, fans might be surprised to learn that plenty of it was improvised.

Shaun Of The Dead
As an example, let us take a look at the pub scene when Ed consoles Shaun by telling stories about his regulars. Yep, it was all ad-libbed!
Good Morning Vietnam
Robin Williams is on the list again, though this time it is for his part in Good Morning Vietnam.

Good Morning Vietnam
Crazy Stupid Love
Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone apparently reenacted the Dirty Dancing lift for kicks. Yes, it wasn’t in the original Crazy Stupid Love screenplay. Gosling proposed the idea and he elaborated about it in one interview:

Crazy Stupid Love
“Well when I go out dancing with my friends and we get drunk, we try and do the Dirty Dancing lift. That’s where it came from and it seemed like a good idea at the time.”
50/50
50/50 tells the tale of a young man diagnosed with cancer. Joseph Gordon-Levitt played the main character and we later watched him shave his head. According to Seth Rogen, that was not supposed to happen!

50/50
They came up with it when they were shooting, though they were nervous since they could only afford one take to get it right. That must be why Rogen legitimately looked shocked afterward!
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan
With Sacha Baron Cohen playing the main character in Borat, we aren’t surprised to hear they relied a lot on improv.

Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Benefit Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan
When he talks to the feminists, he talks about how every woman has a “brain the size of squirrel”? While it wasn’t in the script, it sure was memorable.
Annie Hall
This Woody Allen movie portrayed the hassles of dating very well. In one scene, Woody Allen and Diane Keaten were offered some cocaine.

Annie Hall
When Allen lifted it to his face, he let out a poorly-timed sneeze and the powder flew everywhere. It was an accident, though it definitely made for a great addition to the film.
The Departed
Jack Nicholson makes another appearance on our list. He starred in The Departed opposite Leonardo DiCaprio.

The Departed
They were cast as Frank Costello and Billy Costigan respectively. When Frank brings up a gun to Billy’s face, you can see how shocked DiCaprio was. The emotion was genuine as Nicholson didn’t let the younger actor know he would be deviating from the script!
Wonder Woman
Interestingly, Gal Gadot and Chris Pine actually adlibbed the boat scene. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Pine had great things to say about the actress: “She’s delivering lines like, ‘My father is Zeus’ – shit that is just so ridiculous.

Wonder Woman
And she has to say it with a straight face, with a certain amount of innocence and earnestness. I get to react like any human being would to hearing something as ridiculous as that. So I had it easy.”
Mars Attacks!
Last on our list would be Tim Burton’s tribute to the 1950s alien invasion flicks. If you ever saw Mars Attacks!, you would be familiar with the sound the Martians make.

Mars Attacks!
We bet you remember “Ack! Ack! Ack!” It wasn’t part of the script and Frank Welker deserves credit for coining the bark.
