This is a story of a trio of fishermen who went out to sea like any other day. At least that was what they thought until they found something moving atop an iceberg. They immediately decided to approach the iceberg to find out what it was. This discovery pushed their friendship to the limit and tested the extent to which they will risk their lives for the greater good. Upon seeing the creature there, the group decided to rescue the animal and nurture it back to health. This story will definitely inspire you. We hope you are ready to believe in man’s innate goodness and rekindle the belief that there is still kindness in this world.
The Trio
Three close friends decided to turn their love of fishing into a business. Mallory Harrigan, Cliff Russel, and Allan Russel often went out on fishing trips together. They bought their own boat and started a fishing company of their own.

The Trio
One Boat
Their boat was a small one and with a crew of three, they were able to do what they loved doing. Since they were based in Canada, they had access to a place considered as a major area for fishing. Since they were locals, they were also familiar with the kind of fish abundant in the area and what the consumers wanted.

One Boat
Into The Unknown
One day, they went out to sea without expecting anything unusual to happen out there. They did not expect the fishing trip to be easy because it usually came with certain challenges. However, they encountered something totally unexpected.

Into The Unknown
Fishing Lifestyle
Fishing is definitely one of the toughest jobs on earth. Fishermen need to wake up before the break of dawn to prepare for a day at sea. They spend their day on the water, using up their energy and much of their time to catch a lot of fish. However, the three friends are used to this kind of life and, in fact, love to be out at sea.

Fishing Lifestyle
Built On Friendship
The best of friendships can sometimes turn sour in trying times. This is especially true when friends engage in business together, more so the challenging business of fishing. However, these three continued setting up their business while maintaining their friendship. In fact, this enabled them to have a closer relationship with each other.

Built On Friendship
Job Duties
Work for these friends meant being on the job for long hours even in stormy seas. Allan, Cliff, and Mallory usually return home with bruises, cuts, and bumps. Despite all these, they took pleasure in their daily fishing trips.

Job Duties
Hard At Work
No one complained of the hardships that they encountered daily; neither did anyone think of quitting. Their shared love for their work and each other inspired them to continue doing their work, no matter how demanding it is.

Hard At Work
Morning
This story starts one fine morning when Mallory and the other guys went out to sea. These crab fishermen went to the docks in the morning as usual. It was just like any ordinary day.

Morning
One Fine Day
It was a day that they would always remember for the rest of their lives. As they were getting ready for another day at sea, Mallory thought that it would be a good day for fishing. However, nothing could have prepared her for what they would discover later that day.

One Fine Day
Just Like Any Other Day
She rose earlier on that fateful day and started to get ready before the others even got there. Mallory was already in a joyful and motivated mood that morning when her friends arrived at last.

Just Like Any Other Day
Lists
Once they were all together, they ran through their checklist of things they needed. It was a list that would safeguard their well-being while on a fishing trip. It will also guarantee that emergency devices are available when needed.

Lists
Preparation
In the instance that they miss doing one item on the list, the friends will have to go back to the harbor to fetch that item. This means that they will have to spend longer hours at sea. This is why they always ensure that they have all the items on their list before sailing out.

Preparation
Heading Out To The Sea
The easiest task for any trip was getting their boat ready. These friends usually share stories and jokes as they prepare for their trip. Although they have known each other for a long time, they still have a lot of things to share with each other.

Heading Out
A New Day
The friends always have plenty of things to talk about each and every morning. It was like they haven’t seen each other for a while. This eventful day was just like any other. They chatted as they worked, laughing and bantering as they did their individual tasks. They definitely had no idea that something big was about to happen.

A New Day
The Calm Before The Storm
What happened was what you can call the calm before the tempest. It was a sunny day with very calm waters. Although they had to sail a few miles, the spot they went to was the best place for catching great crabs.

The Calm Before The Storm
Dropping Their Baskets
The three friends turned off their engines upon reaching the spot. It was always their best spot for catching crabs and they were hopeful that it still is for this day. They then prepared and dropped their crab traps carefully, at a spot that they hoped had plenty of these crustaceans. Now all they had to do was wait for their baskets to be filled.

Dropping Baskets
Record-Breaking Year
The friends have to let the crab traps lug on the ocean floor to let the crabs enter them. The crab season is almost ending, so they were optimistic of ending it with a bang.

Record-Breaking Year
Out Of Luck
The three have been having a good run this season and caught a lot of crabs in their various trips. However, they had apprehensions that they might run out of luck. They had a flourishing year and they were hoping that this wouldn’t change.

Out Of Luck
Omen In Crabs
One of the friends manned the boat while the others took charge of the lines, seeing to it that there were no tangles. It was a routine that they usually followed. They were doing fine with their work and the traps are in the water. What can possibly happen next?

Omen
Best Day
They were surprised when they started pulling out the baskets. It was definitely the best day they ever had at sea. They happily high fived each other while casting the baskets out, repeating the same process several times.

Best Day
A New Fishing Spot
The crabs kept coming as they continued their work. It certainly looked like it was going to be a record-breaking day. The three friends completed fishing on the same spot for a while then decided to transfer to another one in much colder waters. However, they know that the farther out they go, the more dangers there would be.

New Fishing Spot
Dangerous Waters
It was a place where not even birds fly out to, yet it all looked calm and serene. However, it was not like that at all. Danger was all around that even the seals lazing on icebergs were aware of it.

Dangerous Waters
One Wrong Turn
The Labrador Sea has a lot of icebergs floating around it. The area poses a lot of danger even for the veteran fishermen. One wrong turn or missed detail can even cause their own demise.

One Wrong Turn
Something Up Ahead
It was Allan who spotted a huge iceberg out on the horizon. He was on lookout duty at that time. While navigating the boat around the iceberg, he noticed something different on this iceberg. He wondered what it could be.

Something Up Ahead
Something Off
The sun was shining brightly making it difficult for the three to clearly see the massive iceberg ahead. When Mallory and Cliff tried checking out what it was that caught Allan’s attention, they also noticed something different on the iceberg. However, they were not able to make out what was different about it.

Something Off
The Iceberg Appears!
As the three friends got nearer, they were able to discern what it was ahead. They saw a dark spot on the iceberg but couldn’t figure out what it specifically was. Mallory initially thought that it was a seal but something was very different about it.

Iceberg
Taking A Closer Look
Cliff agreed with Mallory, also thinking that it was a small seal was on top of the iceberg. It was a common occurrence that they have seen so many times. Still, Allan did not want to let this go. He really thought that this was odd.

Closer Look
What Could It Be?
Allan used his binoculars to take a better look at the animal. He told his friends that it certainly didn’t look like a seal. It moved differently from one. After more scrutinizing, the crew came to an agreement that it definitely was a strange animal. They thought that Allan could be correct in thinking it was another animal so they agreed to find out more about it.

What Could It Be?
Getting Closer
The group still had half a day for fishing but decided instead to have a closer look at the animal. They can’t deny that their curiosity has been stimulated. They needed to know what it was on top of the iceberg. Thus, they moved closer to it. It was already getting colder and windier when they started doing so.

Getting Closer
The Investigation
Taking a different route increased the risks for everyone. However, Allan was able to convince everyone to do so. They knew that if they don’t, they would never be able to reveal what animal it was and what situation it was in.

Investigation
Approaching
The three friends agreed to find out. Allan persuaded the other two who initially thought that the animal’s situation was not that critical. After all, they could not leave the animal to suffer and die out in the cold. So, the three eventually sailed closer.

Approaching
Chilling Temperatures
The animal was clearly stranded on the iceberg. It was also apparent that it was furry and soaked through. The tiny animal surely couldn’t last long in the chilling wind. At this moment, the trio knew they had to do their best to rescue it. Even without knowing what it was, the friends automatically responded compassionately to the situation.

Chilling Temperatures
Advance Slowly
The group had to move slowly through the water. It was important to do so as just a small piece of ice under it can damage their boat, or worse, can even cause it to capsize. They could even become stranded like the tiny animal they wanted to rescue. So they cautiously approached the iceberg, looking out for objects that could pose a threat to them and their boat.

Careful
Constant Watch
At this point, the seas started to become turbulent with waves getting higher and higher. This made the group more frantic as the boat’s movement became more hazardous. Mallory reminded her friends to be more cautious as they sailed closer to the iceberg. They felt excited and curious at the same time but knew they had to be more careful now that they are closer. Two group members continued to watch out for dangers in the surrounding waters.

Constant Watch
Rough Seas
Alas, the group experienced stronger wind and bigger waves that rocked the iceberg and their fishing boat. As they were handling these waves, they became apprehensive about the tiny animal on the moving iceberg.

Rough
Ice Blocks
At this point, the trio had to deal with more than just the frozen chunks in the water. Mallory was afraid that the tiny animal is scared enough and will just jump into the ice-cold sea. She thought that if they can only inch closer, then, they can clearly ascertain the situation the creature is in.

Ice Blocks
Pursuing A Piece Of Ice
With the strong wind and turbulent waves, the iceberg started moving farther from the boat. Thus, the trios worry increased over their boat’s condition as well as the animal’s plight. The tiny creature can now be seen pacing nervously atop the iceberg.

Pursuing Ice
Tricky Circumstances
The fishing boat had to rev up their engine to get nearer the iceberg. Navigating in the icy waters was now more difficult. It even became more dangerous as night was about to fall and it was getting dark. They definitely have to return to their harbor before it happens.

Tricky Circumstances
Getting A Glimpse
As the group got nearer, they were to have a better view of the creature. They saw that it had four legs and looked like a dog. Still, they were not certain how a small puppy could find its way to the top of the iceberg.

Getting a Glimpse
Helpless
The tiny animal was obviously shuddering weakly. He was also soaked through. The friends immediately rescued the poor animal. They knew that they have to do everything so that it will not freeze to death. However, they never knew that they would be in a more perilous situation.

Helpless
Arctic Fox
As the group approached the tiny animal, they finally saw what it actually was. It was a Polar fox, also known as an Arctic fox. The group did not have the time to hypothesize on how the tiny creature got stranded on the iceberg. It was already weakened and cold that birds were starting to circle above it. The trio knew that they have to move fast, otherwise it could become the bird’s next meal.

Arctic Fox
Not A Family Pet
It became evident that other creatures knew that there was a dying fox. So, the group quickly decided to save the tiny animal. They agreed to defer their fishing until they get a clearer understanding of their circumstances. With this in mind, they then proceeded to rescue the fox despite the dangers they faced.

Not A Pet
A Bold Rescue Attempt
The Arctic fox was cold, drenched, and freezing. It was almost at death’s door. The group had to have a good plan to rescue it but they have another concern, a huge problem, in fact. They were not sure if the fox would trust them enough so they can save it.

Bold Attempt
Good Intentions
The three friends were not sure if the fox has had human contact before. They very well knew that wild animals usually become vicious when pushed to a corner. Even though their intentions were good in saving it, they might fail if the creature will not trust them to do so.

Good Intentions
A Wild Fox
The trio initially wanted to tame the Arctic fox. They got closer to the animal with hands outstretched while talking softly to it and calling it to go nearer to them. This was certainly the way to call a domesticated animal to approach them.

Wild Fox
Getting Away
However, the tiny fox was not a domesticated animal. Instead of approaching the trio, it ran away from the humans out of fear. It eventually became stuck on a block of ice and just sat there eyeing the humans. It was clear that the fox would not go near them, but the trio was bent on not abandoning it at all.

Getting Away
A Waiting Game
The group failed to lure the fox towards them, failing several times in their attempt to do so. They realized that they will just have to exercise patience and bide their time. So they started getting comfortable and wait.

Waiting Game
Progress
At last, the tiny fox decided to stand up and approach the group who have continued keeping their boar besides the iceberg. It looked like the fox understood that the boat can help him escape. Still, the trio wasn’t sure if the tiny creature would have enough trust in them to board the boat at all.

Progress
The Rescue
The Arctic fox cautiously advanced towards the boat. It did not have enough strength to leap into the boat but Allan delicately picked up the poor animal and brought it onboard. At last! The tiny creature was on the boat. But, it was not yet secure.

The Rescue
Back In The Water
The fox started to panic when the trio tried to approach the tiny animal. Even though it was definitely safer on the boat, it unexpectedly jumped into the ice-cold water. The friends were horrified to see the animal thrashing as it swam towards the iceberg. They definitely did not want to let the fox go so they followed it until it became weak from swimming.

Back In The Water
Back Into The Boat
It was at this point that Allan lifted the fox out from the icy waters and brought it back to the boat. The fox was still quite afraid of the humans and so moved quickly far from them. He huddled drenched and cold in a corner. It was obvious that the fox’s condition was worse than before, worrying the three friends tremendously.

Back Into The Boat
Unanswered Questions
The cold wind tousled the fox’s drenched fur. Allan and Cliff prepared some towels to warm and dry up the poor animal, but they were afraid that they would be attacked. They wondered just how long before it would learn to trust them. They also asked themselves how long it could survive in these cold and harsh seas. They were surely apprehensive to find the answers to their questions.

Saving A Fox
The group knew that it was important to keep the Arctic fox warm and dry. Mallory saw to it that she steer the boat safely back to the harbor. However, it was still a long distance away and would take quite a while for them to make it.

Saving a Fox
Time Is Of The Essence
The fox definitely did not have time on its side. Allan and Cliff were both monitoring the animal, waiting for the opportunity to help keep it from freezing. As they looked at the fox, they tried to find ways to calm it down and provide it with relief.

Time Is Of The Essence
A Warm Bed
Mallory came up with the idea of making a nest for the fox to keep it warm. Cliff and Allan saw that there was some sawdust on the boat, so they gathered it all up and used it to line the nest. This actually provided insulation for the fox and effectively warmed it up.

A Warm Bed
Trying To Keep Warm
The group gathered the sawdust and lined a plastic bin with it. As soon as the fox was placed inside the bin, it quickly buried itself in the sawdust. The trio then placed the bin in the sunniest area of the boat so the fox can keep itself warm until they reach the harbor.

Trying To Keep Warm
The Fox’s Bed
After preparing the bin, the next thing the group had to do was to put the tiny creature to bed. Since Allan was the one more competent in handling the animal, he carefully picked it up and placed it in the bin. The exhausted creature immediately curled up and went to sleep.

Fox’s Bed
Racing Back To Shore
As the fox was sleeping, the fishing boat sped back to the harbor. Although the tiny creature survived the ordeal and was cozily sleeping, it definitely needed help for it to fully become healthy. The group knew that they had to hurry back to shore.

Racing Back To Shore
An Adjusted Course
Cliff took control of the wheel just 30 minutes from the harbor. However, he saw the need to adjust their course so they can arrive at the harbor earlier than expected. In spite of everything, the trio did not know if the fox can still hold on until such time that it can receive medical help.

Adjusted Course
Terrified & Tired
But then a large wave suddenly hit the boat, alarming and waking the fox up. It was surely exhausted and scared. The friends decided to calm it down by giving it some of the catch. They hoped that the fox would eat it, thus gaining back its strength.

Terrified & Tired
Success
The group was able to successfully keep the fox comfortable and warm with their makeshift bed. As a result, Mallory tried giving it some of the crab and fish. Even though it was certainly hungry, it continued to refuse to eat the food. The trio wondered what food to give the tiny fox.

Success
No Crabs, Please!
Heading down to the boat’s galley, Mallory took out some human food. She got Vienna sausages and tried soaking them in water. She then gave the sausages to the fox that eagerly ate what she gave. The trio thought that this could be the first time the poor creature ate in in days.

Sausages
Safe Return
After having its fill of Vienna sausages, the tiny fox climbed into the bin and slept until the boat safely docked at the harbor. The noise made upon docking alarmed the fox resulting in Mallory calming it down. She talked to it hoping that the tiny creature would stay calm enough until they have docked at the harbor.

Safe Return
Calming Words
As Mallory sat near the makeshift bed, she continued to talk to it in a calm and soothing voice. Even though she knew that the fox can’t understand her words, she hoped that her tone could convey the meaning of her words. All she has to do, then, was to stay with the fox until they have docked and disembarked.

Calming Words
A Home For The Fox
Having docked safely, the trio now had to make a decision on what to do with the fox. It was already dry, full, and warm. This was definitely the last bit of its misadventure. Mallory suddenly had an idea.

Home
The Perfect Spot
She recalled that there was a perfect spot where they could release the fox. The place wasn’t too far from the harbor and there was no danger lurking in it. She thought that it would be the best place for the fox to slowly return to its natural habitat by itself, but still with the trio watching over it.

The Perfect Spot
The Fox’s New Home
The spot was a safe and beautiful place. The group thought that it was precisely what it wanted. One added bonus was that there was a dog house small enough for the fox to use. It was also a mere 10-minute walk from the harbor. Since the trio did not know the exact location of the dog house, they then went in search of it. Though it took them quite a while, they eventually found the dog house.

A New Home
Quite Content
Cliff carried the tiny creature as the three friends went in search of the dog house. The fox was remarkably unafraid of him and settled quite happily in his arms. After a while, the three friends finally found the dog house.

Quite Content
A Successful Rescue
The trio permitted the fox to decide for itself. They placed the plastic sawdust-lined bin adjacent to the dog house. They just waited for it to sniff around and make its move. They monitored its movements, closely watching as the tiny creature explored the area.

Success
Apprehension
The Arctic fox stayed inside its bin. After a while, it slowly got out and shook off the wood shavings and sawdust from its body. It then started walking around the dog house and sat on the ground, looking like the wild fox that it really was.

Apprehension
Settling In
The tiny creature started to settle in after investigating its surroundings. It eventually felt safe. The three friends felt relief upon seeing this, knowing that they were able to save this poor animal. If they did not see it, they were sure that the tiny fox would not have survived his situation.

Settling In
Just To Be Sure
The three friends stayed for a while, just to be sure that the fox has settled in fully and to ensure his safety. They looked on as it wandered around, exploring its new territory. It finally looked calm and started to settle down into his new home.

Just To Be Sure
Slowly Making Its Way
The fishermen then returned to their boat. They felt that they had done what they should and that is is now time for them to return to their homes. It was definitely a day that they will forever remember! This short adventure will surely remain a treasured memory for all of them

Slowly Making Its Way
Long Day
Although fishing is usually a very tiring job, this day definitely drained the trio physically and emotionally. They looked forward to going back to their boat and turn back home for a much-needed rest.

Long Day
When All Is Said And Done
On their way home, the friends couldn’t help but be awed by the beauty of the scenery around them. Although they see this scene every day, they felt that on this day, the view is even better.

Internet Post
Mallory Harrigan made this Instagram post after the friends’ adventure: ‘Managed to nurse this little baby back to health the other day with @cliffordrussell9455 and @alanrussell7 🐺 His fur should be brown by now but he was on that piece of ice for so long that it never changed colour.’

Internet Post
Proud
It turned out that the three friends were delighted and proud of their adventure, as they should be. All of them posted their own write-ups on their social media accounts on the events of that unusual day. We would also be proud of rescuing a wild creature if we were in their shoes.
