This style is generally seen in trench and pea coats, but did you know they used to have an actual purpose other than fashion? They were originally developed for men in the military who had oversized jackets that could also be used as blankets when needed. The “half belt” was used to gather up the extra material and hold it in place so soldiers could walk freely and not worry about their jacket looking large on them. Nowadays it’s just used for fashion but at one point they an important use!
