Natural adjustments
That got us thinking: does a mother’s sleep pattern change naturally after delivering a baby? So, sort of. It is more that they must adjust to the baby’s cycle. That is not easy. Infants seldom sleep for more than four hours each night, which is bad news for exhausted new parents.
More sleep, please
A three-month-old will spend 50 to 80 percent of the night in REM, shifting more often between the different sleep stages. This implies they’re more prone to be bothered by the slightest sound or touch – as many parents will attest! And naturally, this can have a big effect on mom and dad.
