The use of therapy and companion animals in criminal law cases is very encouraged, as Assistant State Attorney Beth Crumpler says. Even more so with younger victims who need someone to hold on to when testifying. There was one little girl, who turned to Joanne before going into the courtroom and asked her a question that baffled everyone.

The little girl asked Joanne, “Is Karl going to protect me?”. Karl was able to calm and comfort this little girl, which made her adore him. Her case was a difficult one, to say the least. Because of her past experience when she was wronged by the man on trial, this girl was wary of the world around her. She had to face a scary experience, going through two depositions and a trial as well as telling the court about what the man did to her while he was just feet away from her. Karl did something amazing for her that changed her life.
