Celine Dion first achieved international fame during the early 1980’s when she won two competitions. She won both the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival in 1982 and the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988. For both competitions, she represented the Swiss Confederation.

During the peak of her career in 1999, Celine Dion took a break from work so that she could spend time with her husband. This was the time right after he received his cancer diagnosis. In 2002, she returned and signed a nightly performance deal at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
