Many people probably think acting in a film which you direct wouldn’t be a big deal, but Alan Rickman did not agree. He said the only reason that he played King Louis XIV in A Little Chaos was “economics.” When he was asked what it was like acting under his own direction, he said to Empire that it was “Awful. And I really wouldn’t have done it, but it was economics. They didn’t have to pay that actor. The only thing that made it bearable was having such a close relationship with [cinematographer] Ellen Kuras and traveling in to the set together.”
