Commonly referred to only as “Ford,” The Ford Motor Company is an American multinational automaker headquartered in Dearborn, Michigan. It is one of the “Big Three” which refers to the USA’s largest automobile manufacturers. Ford rightfully belongs on this list alongside Chrysler and General Motors. The company was founded by Henry Ford in 1903 and revolutionized the automobile industry. It went through some rough times especially during the recent financial crises but is still currently the 2nd largest U.S. based automaker behind General Motors.

Change Is Imminent
Ford recently made an announcement that it would stop producing cars in favor of SUVs and larger vehicles. It will also take a big move to only manufacturing electric vehicles. Why? it seems the company wants to focus its energy on where sales are growing. Lately, more people are purchasing larger vehicles as opposed to smaller vehicles. Ted Cannis, Ford’s global director of battery electric vehicles recently stated, “With (Ford CEO Jim) Hackett, we’re all in. We’re going to be bigger and we want to change the process.”

Consumers prefer electric and larger vehicles for a few reasons. SUVs and trucks have more battery space and are cost-efficient. It seems like electric cars are the future of all cars, and the federal government is even offering a rebate for new purchases of these vehicles. Ted Cannis continued, “Let’s make them awesome. Let’s amplify what’s best about that for that user group and really make awesome vehicles.”
