Every so often, a chart-topping movie will take the box offices by storm and manage to stand the true test of time. For some of these must-see, timeless gems, we can’t help but unleash out a sneaky nostalgic smile when the title pops up. For us gear heads, it’s also the iconic cars that take center stage in our favorite movies and even manage to steal the limelight for us. With this in mind, we’ve compiled a list of our all-time favorite iconic movie cars. So, fasten your seat belts and get ready for an awesome ride down movie lane.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – 1961 Ferrari
In 1986, Matthew Broderick schooled us all in how to turn a sick day into a legendary adventure in the iconic teen comedy “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”. But for the adrenaline junkies amongst us, the real superstar of the movie was his father’s treasured 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California. Ferris Bueller was a master of persuasion, so when he convinced Cameron Frye, played by Alan Ruck, to take his father’s cherished classic car for a spin, we knew we might be in for a bumpy ride. Cameron made the movie even more nail-biting by candidly pointing out how “less than 100 were made. My father spent three years restoring this car. It is his love. It is his passion.” Of course, nothing could prepare us for the next 30 seconds when he reversed the car out of the garage and plunged it straight into a ravine. But this was only the beginning of the car’s demise and a pretty mind-blowing adventure for Ferris! It’s probably a good thing that the car wasn’t a genuine Ferrari, but it still stole the show and our hearts in the movie!

Thelma & Louise – 1966 Ford Thunderbird
In 1991, Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon made us buckle up for a thrilling ride in the legendary road movie “Thelma & Louise”. For us gearheads, it’s impossible to reminisce about the movie without thinking of the limited-edition vintage 1966 Ford Thunderbird convertible. The movie featured Thelma, (Geena Davis), a repressed housewife yearning to escape her volatile husband, and Louise (Susan Sarandon), a feisty waitress attempting to escape a past trauma. In this adapted screenplay, the two women embark on a weekend getaway to a cabin. However, the movie takes a drastic turn for the worse and the innocent weekend getaway turns to a weekend on the run. Louise’s T-Bird convertible plays an integral part of the movie as the girls take us all on an enthralling and unforgettable drive towards the Mexican border. The story culminates in a cliff-hanging moment at the Grand Canyon, when the pair are forced to make a life-changing decision. Well, that’s one way to keep us on our toes and why we’re giving the Ford convertible a deserving place in our hall of movie car fame.

Back to the Future – 1981 DeLorean DMC-12
In the legendary sci-fi trilogy “Back to the Future”, it’s pretty safe to say that the time-travelling DeLorean DMC-12 was the star-attraction. After all, how could Christopher Lloyd (Doctor Emmet Brown) attempt to travel through time to reconcile the past and future with his high-school side-kick Michael J Fox (Marty Mc Fly) without the converted flying automobile. Who could forget the famous scene in the first movie, where Marty says ‘Doc, we better back up. We don’t have enough road to get up to 99’. Doc stunned us with the line ‘Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads’… The action-packed trilogy featured a total of 7 DeLoreans, including one was spectacularly destroyed by a 19th Century train in the third movie, before being later restored. After filming, the iconic cars attracted so much attention, that they have even been showcased in museums around the world from Canada and Japan to Orlando and Hollywood.
