Sometimes, all you can think of when you hear Tom Selleck is that mustache. Do the names Thomas Magnum, Jesse Stone, or Richard Burke ring a bell? Of course they do! They were all played by one of the best actors in Hollywood to date: the venerable Tom Selleck! It’s time we paid tribute to this incredible and multi-talented actor, and also show you a few pictures of him sporting his iconic mustache. However, we also want to get into the little known details surrounding Tom Selleck and his personal life.
What many fans don’t know is that there’s more to this artist than his acting prowess and knack for growing an admirable mustache. Sure, Tom played in over 50 films in his acting career and also appeared in commercials, as well as a Broadway performance. Yet, there’s more to the man than his roles. Read on to find out all about this talented actor when he isn’t on screen!
The Selleck family originally planted their roots in Detroit, also the home of contemporary actors David Spade and Kristen Bell. When Tom was still a child, his family relocated to California, where his father worked in real estate, and his mother stayed at home as a housewife. The family was known in the community for their disciplined nature, family values, and strong work ethic. It’s no surprise that Tom espouses these qualities even to this day. He used these same values when discussing his parenting style for his own family, and when telling how his mother was as a parent, he said, “She’s always been there and always been very fair — even when she said, ‘Wait till your father gets home,’ which usually was for good reason.” Unfortunately, his mother passed away last year.
Not The NBA
Tom graduated from high school in California and studied at the University of Southern California. His height of 6’4” along with that fantastic work ethic earned him a basketball scholarship at the University, but that wasn’t enough for Tom. To supplement his income, he also worked as a part-time model. While he originally attended college to study Business Administration, his drama coach saw a side of Tom that would change his life forever. Tom changed his path and began studying with the American Director and Hollywood acting instructor, Milton Katselas, who was working at Beverly Hills Playhouse at the time.
When we said Tom Selleck had multifaceted talents, we weren’t kidding! He joined the army in 1967 and served for six years in the California Army National Guard’s 160th Infantry Regiment. He earned the rank of Sergeant and speaks fondly of his service. In fact, he said, “I am a veteran, I’m proud of it. I was a sergeant in the U.S. Army infantry, National Guard, Vietnam era. We’re all brothers and sisters in that sense.”
Despite all of these achievements, it took 70 years for Selleck to feel the power behind leadership and independence. On his 70th birthday when his father died, he reported it was the first time he felt like a man. He said, “I had had a lot of leadership positions, I had been in the military… but you know, in my case, when my father died, I go, ‘There’s nobody to go to for fatherly advice. You’re on your own, pal.'” What a disheartening birthday that must have been.
Only The Start
All it took was some cajoling from a drama coach and his fraternity brothers to change his life forever. They suggested he try out for The Dating Game. That was a big transition in Selleck’s life and also earned him a lot of fans following the show’s debut. Pepsi even contacted him for a commercial, and his career began to take off in a positive direction.
With opportunities left and right for Selleck, Twentieth Century Fox began asking for him to sign on with the company. Selleck, however, was hesitant to sign the contract, and had a particular condition that Twentieth Century Fox was happy to fulfill: he wanted to enroll in a training class to hone his skills.
Soap Opera Kid
One of Selleck’s first roles was playing a character on the hit daytime drama, The Young and the Restless. Though he played the minor character Jed Andrews, Selleck’s superb acting in the multiple love triangles his character was involved in wowed audiences and earned him a huge following in the daytime drama. As if Jed predicted the future, Selleck would later have many romantic relationships that would mimic his character’s.
All of Selleck’s hard work paid off when he turned 35, and he earned his biggest role as Thomas Magnum in Magnum, P.I. This opportunity was a chance for him to make a name for himself. The show was shot in in the idyllic location of Hawaii, but things did not go according to plan. Filming was actually delayed for 6 months due to a writer’s strike! Without a salary from this stalemated role, Selleck worked as a handyman to pay the bills. There aren’t many people around today that are that versatile.
Magnum, P.I. was an absolute crime drama hit and stayed on air for a total of 8 seasons! You heard that right, there were 163 episodes of Tom Selleck rocking Hawaiian shirts and a Detroit Tigers baseball cap. It goes without saying that the biggest fans of the show have the same apparel in their own closets. And that mustache! We can’t forget about that gem of the 80’s.
They See Me Rollin’
Here’s a fun fact that you might be interested to know: that red Ferrari that Selleck famously drives around in the show was not a part of the original script! The writers wrote it was a Porsche, but Selleck’s tall stature stopped him from fitting in one. They switched the Porsche to a Ferrari so that the 6’4” Selleck could fit. We think that was one of the best changes the writers could have made to the script. The Thomas Magnum of the show couldn’t have ridden anything else.
Nothing But Respect
In 1996, Larry Manetti, who played Rick Wright on the Magnum, P.I. show, released his memoir titled Aloha Magnum. Fans waited with bated breath to read about all the scandals on the show. Much to their chagrin, Manetti only had positive things to say about Selleck on the set! Manetti mentioned Selleck’s charity work, his unrivaled work ethic, and friendly attitude.
In 1986, Tom Selleck joined the 2,600 actors now present on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The star was dedicated to him with just a few more seasons to go on Magnum, P.I. We’re sure that this star wouldn’t be there today if not for his stellar acting on Magnum! If you want to take a peek at his famous star, you can head over to 6925 Hollywood Boulevard yourself to check it out!
It’s hard to imagine that initially, producers cast anyone but Tom Selleck for the role of Thomas in Magnum, P.I. However, that’s exactly what happened. First, the producers agreed that TV star Kevin Dobson would play the lead role. He ended up turning down the role, wanting his career to go in a different direction. That’s how Selleck was able to get that career changing role!
One of the conditions of Selleck’s acting contract with Magnum, P.I. was to not work on any other projects while the show is ongoing. Due to this contract, he had to turn down several job offers. One of the biggest positions he had to turn down because of this condition was the part of Indiana Jones in the Raiders of the Lost Ark! We’re sure Harrison Ford was happy about the clause, though. The film went on to be one of the highest grossing of all time. There was one fact that Selleck probably regrets to this day: he could have worked on the film when Magnum, P.I. production was delayed.
Swing And A Miss
Selleck had an opportunity to play a role alongside Julie Andrews in Victor/Victoria. He had his reservations about the part that continued until he changed his mind and accepted the role. Unfortunately, it was too late. Selleck signed on to Magnum, P.I. and was forbidden from playing other roles until the show was over.
Did you know that Tom Selleck’s character in Magnum, P.I.</em >was written to act more like James Bond? Selleck, in fact, was the person who convinced the writers to make his character more approachable to fans. We sure are glad that Selleck was able to negotiate with the writers because the show would not have been what it was today without that vital change!
Tom Selleck married model Jacqueline Ray a year after they started dating. The marriage was going so well that he adopted her son, Kevin Shepard, during that time! Unfortunately, their marriage ended 11 years after it started. Divorce doesn’t end all relationships, though. He continued his relationship with his stepson Kevin well after the divorce.
A Superstar of It’s Own
The only star that could possibly rival Tom Selleck’s acting abilities is his ever-popular mustache! It was popularized in Magnum, P.I., and continues to be one of his biggest assets to this day. Many fans do not recognize the Hollywood star without his mustache. But, his mustache is not so iconic that fans always recognize him. Sometimes, fans at times confuse him with other popular 80’s actors.
Agree to Disagree
It’s hard to argue otherwise that Tom Selleck’s signature feature is his mustache. Some fans have confused his iconic mustache with another actor’s. Selleck explained, “There was a time I could have been mistaken for Burt Reynolds. I had a mustache and so did he. But he was the number one star in the world, so there wasn’t really much confusion.”
In the final year of Magnum, P.I. Selleck began working on the set for Three Men and a Baby with actors Steve Guttenberg and Ted Danson. While some critics at the time argued he peaked in his portrayal of Magnum in the hit television series, the movie advanced his career in and grossed over $170 million. It was the biggest motion picture of the year!
After his divorce to model Jacqueline Ray, he married Jillie Mack in 1987. They had a daughter together, named Hannah, born in 1988. The family lives in Thousand Oaks, California.
Selleck had some strings to pull, but he was able to have his wife and parents cast on Magnum P.I.! Even though they played minor characters, Jillie was able to appear during the Rembrandt’s Girl episode in the fourth season.
Many Hollywood celebrities lean towards the left, but not Selleck. He has been very vocal about his conservative views and announced that he is a proud republican. He openly endorsed John McCain in the 2008 presidential election and is an vocal member of the National Rifle Association! He actually sits as one the directors of the board.
Neither Here Nor There
As such a heart throb of the Republican party, Selleck surprisingly chose not to endorse anyone for the 2016 Presidential race. To this day, he has not openly disclosed whether he voted for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton. However, he chose to take a stance on the Dallas police shooting! He wrote a letter to David Brown, the former department chief and said he felt that he handled the situation well!
Selleck has had nearly an unrivaled career throughout the years. He’s starred in over 50 roles in film, not including the commercials and Broadway appearances. However, his net worth only comes out to $25 million. We won’t argue that it’s a lot of money, but it’s still lower than we expected.
With Selleck as a big of a hunk as he is, it’s no surprise that he was called to play Mitch Buchannon on Baywatch! However, Selleck turned down the offer because Selleck is a man of morals. What does that mean? Well, he explained that he refused to be a sex symbol in Hollywood, so he chose other roles.
Dr. Richard Burke
Tom Selleck may have turned down some roles for their grand sex appeal to audiences, but there was one romantic role he had no trouble accepting. He appeared on Friends as Dr. Richard Burke as Monica’s then-boyfriend. His appearances occurred in the second season of the series that ran in the 90’s. Selleck’s performance was so astounding that he earned a nomination for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series!
Tom Selleck must have had a particular knack for playing members of the police force. He starred in the show Blue Bloods as Frank Reagan, the police commissioner. According to Selleck, he routinely received salutes when he stepped out in costume. Why? The reason is that police officers are mandated to salute police commissioners when they see them in uniform. While we don’t know how Selleck felt about the salutes, we’re sure he was flattered to be receiving the sign of respect!
It seems that Selleck is quite the humorist! His costar Donnie Wahlberg has widely reported on Tom Selleck’s sense of humor. Wahlberg stated, “He can [be funny], yes, usually after he makes sure everyone understands what’s important. It would feel like Christmas on a Tuesday night in August when my dad started telling jokes and it’s the same thing with Tom, when he starts with his oddball jokes and his weird rhymes that he tells from 1930 that are so funny. Everybody feels so much lighter and happier.”
An Affair To Remember
With looks as dashing as Selleck’s, it comes as no surprise that he had the life of a playboy. Before marrying Jillie Mack, he briefly dated model Marie Helvin, who detailed the affair in her autobiography. She said, “When I visited Hawaii once, Tom Selleck was shooting for Magnum, P.I. We met and bit of an affair started, then Selleck came to London, we had dinner and went back to his hotel. But the next morning, I sent him a letter to break off this relationship because I was worried about my married life. Later on after a week, he joined Musical Cats backstage and met his wife-to-be.”
Tom and Mimi
Selleck’s playboy affairs didn’t end with Marie Helvin. He dated Mimi Rogers for an entire year. Their marriage, however, never came to fruition, and Rogers would later go on to date and marry Tom Cruise.
Grilled By Rosie
Rosie O’Donnell invited Tom Selleck to her daytime comedy show, The Rosie O’Donnell Show. Selleck initially thought that the invitation was to promote his 1999 film The Love Letter. As we all know, O’Donnell is always full of surprises. She took the opportunity to interrogate the NRA member and noted Republican about his controversial views on gun ownership. Selleck had one thing to say, “It’s your show, and you can talk about it after I leave.”
In 2010, Tom Selleck starred in the movie Killers, alongside Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl. Kutcher was one of the producers of the film and stated he was looking for a particular actor to portray Mr. Kornfeldt. Kutcher said, “I call Mr. Kornfeldt ‘Sir’ in the script a lot. And I was thinking, ‘Who am I going to call Sir?’ Who’s a bigger guy, who’s got an intimidating thing, but doesn’t have to try to be intimidating?” We think Tom Selleck was the perfect actor for that role.
Starring in 50 films can make having a good work-life balance a challenge for any actor. Selleck was so concerned about the amount of time he was spending with his family while filming Magnum, P.I., that he took a break from his acting career. It’s obvious that this man had a good upbringing and that he wants to instill the same values in his family!
Even though Tom Selleck has had his fair share of playboy moments, he had something insightful to say about relationships: “I’ve found it very difficult to expose my private life and live with it. It’s important to nurture your marriage. I think wanting time away from work has been good for that.”
While Tom Selleck played his role on Magnum, P.I. flawlessly, he had something to say to Closer Weekly about the show:”Magnum, P.I. went to 163 shows and we still had ground to cover, and I wasn’t tired of it. I was tired from it because I was in every shot.” He probably enjoyed the work he did in Blue Bloods more considering there were many of scenes that did not include his character.
Not The Only Reason
There were many reasons Selleck ended his stint on Magnum, P.I., but among the top of them might surprise you. “I quit Magnum to have a family,” Selleck said. “It took a long time to get off the train, but I try very hard to have balance.” It’s not everyday that an actor chooses to prioritize his family over his career!
Words of Wisdom
The first marriage isn’t always the one that lasts with top Hollywood actors. However, Selleck’s second marriage to Magnum, P.I. actress Jillie Mack seems to be the kind that will last a lifetime. The couple has been together for over 30 years! Selleck had some advice he shared about marriage: “It’s important to nurture your marriage. I think wanting time away from work has been good for that.”
Tom Selleck married actress Jillie Mack in 1987. Bob Selleck, Tom Selleck’s brother, organized the super-private ceremony. Mack and Selleck got married in a quaint chapel in Lake Tahoe, Nevada using the code names “Tom Jenkins” and “Suzie Mark.” The minister found out the superstar couple he was marrying only a few minutes before the ceremony started!
The wedding officiant, Reverend David Immel, had some words to say about Tom Selleck and Jillie Mack before exchanging their vows: “They were both nervous, like any other couple about to get married. He was very concerned that the service be heartfelt, very concerned for her that the service be meaningful. He is a very warm, caring man.” What a dreamy husband!
My Daughter, Hannah
Tom Selleck is a proud father, and just like any proud father, he loves his daughter with his entire heart. When he and Jillie had Hannah in 1988, they vowed as parents to raise her out of the peering eyes of press cameras and celebrity rumors. His now-29-year-old daughter is an equestrian, and she also models occasionally for her sponsors and for family friends.
You might be surprised to learn that Hannah did not grow up in the glamorous lifestyle that many celebrity children live. She was actually raised on the family farm, and she learned an incredible number of life lessons on that farm. For starters, her love of horses started on the farm and continues to this day. She said in an interview that she started riding because, “As a kid they tried to raise me as normally as possible given my dad’s line of work. Those horses have been a great way for me to have my own accomplishments outside of whatever my parents had done.”
Jillie explained her reasoning for raising Hannah on the farm. She said, “We both thought it was the best environment for [Hannah] to grow up.” That begs the question, was raising their only daughter on a 65-acre ranch in California the best thing to do? We’re thinking that the answer is yes, considering how well-rounded their daughter is today.
Hannah grew up to love horses, so much so that she became an equestrian! Without her upbringing on the farm, would she have ended up the person she is today? We’re thinking she wouldn’t have been, and Hannah seems to agree: “I have a small breeding program in California where I’m developing young horses to bring along and sell. It’s a business that so far has been really great and a great experience. It is a very expensive sport, so that is why my dad encouraged and invested in this breeding operation. They have been very supportive. The prices of horses have become astronomical. So that’s why it’s so much more rewarding to bring a horse along on your own.”
We can’t even imagine how difficult it must have been to run a 60-acre avocado farm. Between waterings, dealing with fluctuating crop yields, and making sure those pesky bugs stay off the plants, there’s a lot to think about when managing a farm. When the California drought hit a few years ago, Tom Selleck did something a bit illegal to water his farm. He hired a truck to get water from a hydrant in a nearby town. When the theft was discovered, it was estimated that the water was worth $1.4 million! Selleck was probably a bit worried to find out that this crime was in fact, a felony in the eyes of the law.
On The Other Side
In 2015, the Calleguas Municipal Water District sued Selleck for his water crime. The allegation detailed how he illegally transported water to his property. A private investigation revealed that the fan favorite Hollywood actor hired tanker trucks to steal the water not only once, but multiple times. In fact, he conducted twelve operations of water pilfering over 2 years! To make matters worse, this was the second lawsuit against the actor. He ignored the first lawsuit.
The water district agency hired a private investigator that uncovered a lot of serious problems with Selleck’s water scandal. The private investigator was not a free service, either. The investigation cost a total of $22,000! Both parties ended up settling out of court and Tom Selleck was required to pay only $21,000.
Remember Kevin, Selleck’s step-son from his first marriage to model Jacqueline Ray? Even after Ray and Selleck’s divorce, Selleck stayed a true father to his step-son throughout his childhood years. As Kevin grew older, he struggled in his music career and was faced with many financial difficulties. This put a massive strain on their relationship that continues to this day.
As a man with one failed marriage under his belt and another marriage just beginning, Selleck said that he made a deliberate effort to notice how he socialized with women during his second marriage. When Italian film actress and singer Sophia Loren moved into Jillie and Selleck’s neighborhood, Jillie was noticeably concerned about her new neighbor. “If I was on my way to Home Depot and she was out on the driveway in her bathrobe and she said exactly these words: ‘Thomaso, would you like a cappuccino?’ I could go in,” Selleck said. However, Selleck left his playboy tendencies behind when his second marriage began and has always stayed faithful to his wife, Jillie.
With the high number of scandals that Selleck was directly involved in, it’s interesting to know that he has a personal code of conduct when it comes to ethics. “I try very hard to conduct myself in an ethical way, because that’s important to my stability now,” he said. “We’re a culture that’s so centered on the individual. The culture says that basically nothing is more important than the way you feel.”
Something you might not know about Selleck is that he appeared as a guest on The Chevy Chase Show in 1993. The skit he played in was awarded the Worst Supporting Actor in the Razzie Awards! He was nominated for this award after his performance in Christopher Columbus: The Discovery as King Ferdinand. Selleck had a humorous take on the award, even asking members of the audience to “blow me a raspberry.”
Heart of Gold
If you were given over a quarter million dollar bonus, what would you do with it? Selleck had this exact opportunity arrive at his doorstep when Universal Studios gave him $350,000 dollar bonus! Selleck used some of the money on himself, buying a Rolex and a Porsche, but he gave away much of the money to the members of the set! He gave each member of the set a $1,000 cash bonus.
Fans were extremely disappointed to hear that Selleck would not appear in the Magnum, P.I. film adaptation. During interview, Selleck gave a scathing reason why he didn’t want to be a part of the film: “I tell you what worries me — because I love “Magnum” and we have loyal fans — is they take these TV show titles, and they buy them and they spend $100 million on special effects, and then they make fun of them and trivialize it. Then they try and get the actor who used to be in it to do some ridiculous cameo to prove to the audience that it’s OK. And I will not do that.”
Hut, set, spike! Tom Selleck is actually an avid beach and indoor volleyball player. He plays on Honolulu’s Outrigger Canoe Club as their outside hitter. One of his teammates has a lot of positive things to say about Selleck. He said, “Tom was a great teammate, appreciative of being included with such a talented and experienced group, practicing and playing hard when his Magnum schedule permitted… He was very patient with all of us, and we relished the big crowds that replaced the usual sparse number of players’ friends and spouses at the national tourney matches.”
Say It Ain’t So
Tom Selleck showed a side of himself we never thought he’d see: he shaved his mustache! We’ll tell you a secret about the reason he shaved his mustache: it was for the 1997 movie In & Out. Since that time, Selleck said he would only shave his mustache off when a role demanded it.
Selleck had a brief time performing in theatre back in 2001. He played Murray in the Broadway adaptation of A Thousand Clowns. Unfortunately for Selleck, there was a lot of negative feedback for his sub-standard performance. Critics argued that Selleck could not possibly top the acting done by Jason Robards, Jr. in the film version. Selleck, however, had some support in his corner. The playwright argued that he intentionally wrote the character that way. The critical reviews stayed standing.
Selleck is the type of actor who has qualities that would make him the iconic Western star. Just like any cowboy, he is a marksman, firearms collector, and a man of the outdoors. His dedication to the role paid off as he starred in roles in hit films like Quigley Down Under, The Shadow Riders, The Sacketts, and Crossfire Trail.
2015 was a great year for the inductees of the International Mustache Hall of Fame. Among the many great individuals, Tom Selleck was joined the ranks of men in the Film and Television section.
I’ll Be Back
Magnum, P.I. set Selleck’s career in a positive trajectory and made him into the Hollywood star that he is today. Unfortunately, he had to decline another amazing movie opportunity due to the strict contract requirements of the television show. That movie was the 1984 sci-fi thriller, The Terminator!
You might have already had a hunch that Selleck is a great guy, but if you needed some more evidence, we’ve got your back. Selleck is involved in and works with many different charities around the nation. He works with the Character Counts Coalition, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Joseph & Edna Josephson Institute of Ethics, and he also does volunteering work with the New York City Student/Sponsor Partnership Program. Believe it or not, that is not an exhaustive list of the charities that Selleck is involved with!
Female Sequel Series
The Magnum, P.I. reboot is in the production stages and we couldn’t be more excited! The show will feature Eva Longoria as the executive producer and the cast will be… wait for it… all female! The current script revolves around Lily Magnum replacing her father as the head of his firm. The show will be a lighthearted return to the original series. We’re hoping that it airs soon!
Remember that red Ferrari 308 zooming around Hawaii in the Magnum, P.I. show? It was sold in an Arizona auction with an asking price of a quarter million dollars! As if buying that car wasn’t a prize in and of itself, it was also accompanied by a certificate of authentication that cost an additional $181,500. We are totally jealous, too.
Tom Selleck’s portrayal of Dr. Richard Burke on the hit sitcom show Friends has since been a fan favorite. Selleck portrayed an ophthalmologist who is 21 years older than Monica in seasons 2, 3, and 6. Selleck is rated by fans as the third top guest character on the show, only being ousted by mega superstars Brad Pitt and Paul Rudd.
When Robert B. Parker wrote the character Jesse Stone in his novels, he probably had no idea that the film adaptations would be played by such a well-known actor. Selleck portrayed Jesse and has written and produced several episodes. In fact, Jesse Stone: Thin Ice was never a novel, but actually was the brainchild of Selleck while working on the set.
Tom Selleck is not an actor afraid of appearing on the screen for more than movies and TV shows! His ability to advertise products is highly sought after by many major companies. He has promoted AT&T, Florida’s Natural Orange Juice, and Right Guard.
Tom Selleck is popular for a lot of reasons, and some of those reasons are for the records he holds! In August, 1997, he was the first celebrity to be invited to speak on the hit daytime television show, The View. He definitely set the precedent for celebrities to appear on the show, and since then, many have sat in that extra chair discussing current events and their private lives.
Selleck’s birthday is January 29th, making him a Aquarius. People with this sign are acutely blunt, caring, honest, and overall very curious individuals. We’re thinking that this definitely reflects this mustache-adorning man’s nature.
There’s one thing Hollywood actors can’t get enough of, and that’s the awards. Selleck won not only a Golden Globe for Magnum, P.I., but also an Emmy for his superb acting skills! His nominations list is extensive and includes Golden Globes, Emmys, and People’s Choice Awards.
Selleck’s character roles shifted after he finished filming Magnum, P.I. In 2007, he started portraying the character A.J. Cooper on the show Las Vegas. A.J. is the owner of the Montecito Casino on the show.
You can start calling him Dr. Tom Selleck! Pepperdine University bestowed upon Selleck an honorary doctorate degree back in 2000. We can’t say he’s been teaching any college classes since, but that’s an amazing honor nonetheless!
There are few people who can say that Tom Selleck is always in their corner. The members of the Detroit Tigers are one of the groups who he will always support. His loyalty to the team is unrivaled — so much so that there have been suggestions that he would be an owner of the team!
Selleck has done some incredible things as an actor. One of his many side jobs is narrating a documentary series! If you ever watch the series North America, you might recognize the Magnum, P.I. lead character’s voice in the background. Selleck did a great job enriching our documentary-viewing experiences with his narration!
Who doesn’t love a trip to a museum to see some ’80s celebrity fashion? The next time you travel to Washington, D.C., make sure to visit The National Museum of American History. You might recognize the Hawaiian shirt proudly on display! That’s because this is one of the classic shirts that Magnum wore during filming.
You might remember that Selleck served in the military and rose to the rank of Sergeant during his service. He speaks highly of his time serving his country, and in 2009, a lot more people started noticing. In February of that year, he became the national spokesman of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund Education Center.
I Like It
Selleck has had a fascinating preference for his characters’ religious views. When he spoke about his character from the television show Blue Bloods, he commented that he loves that Frank Reagan is a Catholic. Surprisingly, Selleck is not religious!
Filing for divorce is never an easy task, and it was especially lonesome for Selleck. He was working in London at the time, and he wanted to take his mind off of things and see Cats on stage. His colleagues took him to the performance, and interestingly, he kept returning after the first show!
Selleck watched the musical on more than one occasion because he absolutely adored Rumpleteazer. He had good reason to be so head over heels for the actress, as it was none other than the woman who would go onto become his wife, Jillie Mack! Selleck eventually worked up the courage to ask her out, and the two went on a date together. It’s great that Cats was wrapping up its performances around the same time as Selleck and Mack started dating, so that they could have ample time to get to know one another.
Jillie Mack did the unthinkable, but it was well worth it. She moved to Hawaii because she and Selleck were deeply in love! In fact, the actress was by his side when his star was dedicated on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Selleck has a lot to say about his second marriage to actress Jillie Mack: “Jillie and I have a pretty good partnership. We don’t do anything or make any decisions without consulting each other. And if one of us makes a decision involving Hannah, the other parent completely supports that position, even if you disagree.”
Lots Of Love
Tom Selleck has been out of the limelight lately, but only because he’s busy being a great husband and father. Selleck has taken a break from movies and television so that he can focus on cultivating a great relationship with his daughter, Hannah and maintaining his outstanding marriage to his wife, Jillie.
